Logitech C120 webcam modification
21/08/2010 - Primarily bought (£8 from PC World) to take the pain out of mount PE measurement - for use with Metaguide. Camera came apart very easily once I realised that there was a screw hidden behind a small rubber bung. Removed lens, re-assembled minus a few fittings, but with the C-Mount adapter ring glued onto removable lens front. Since the sensor was not sealed, I closed the main orifices up and made the whole thing rigid with hot melt glue - won't come apart in a hurry. Attached nose piece and it seems to work although it can't cope with high intensity light focussed through a 80mm scope. Two lessons learned - 1. - don't install the logitech drivers they cause severe picture corruption at low light levels - much annoyance vented by many people on forums. 2. before gluing it up, cut the lens assembly at the top (slicing through the lens but leaving the IR blocking filter in tact); remove remainder of lens and then screw IR blocking filter back to protect sensor and provide IR blocking - I didn't and it's too late now. I'm not expecting too much from the CMOS sensor but it may be good enough for guiding later - we shall see.
