The two domes

Brough Astronomy [BLAS]
- We are ASTRONOMY
Images taken at Makhado in the North of the Country in March. Photos taken during a visit in October 2010 - HARTRAO (hartebeeshoek radio astronomy observatory) and Tswaing (Most accessible and one of the best preserved meteorite impact craters in the world). The event was hosted by the Pretoria Astronomical Society as part of the ASSA bi-annual symposium. I was very kindy invited to join in the event after having contacted the Society (Johan Smit) prior to my somewhat extended trip. I also witnessed a handmade 6" Newtonian being completed and shared the experience of 'first light'. Also included are images taken by Pat Kuehn of the Pretoria Astronomical Society who uses a camera with stock lenses and a home made barn-door drive mounted on a standard tripod.
